How to Wire Uhf to Cigarette Lighter

    UHF Radio Wiring

    Hi

    I have been running my GME UHF Radio from the cigarette lighter plug ever since I bought the unit but now want to hard wire it into the circuits so that I can still use the 12 volt outlet for the Garmin GPS unit at the same time. I have a Puma D90. Is there a spare live fuse in the fusebox that I can wire the radio into - or do I wire it up to something else. I suppose that I just need the radio on when the key is on Aux or with the engine going. The GME is one of those small ones and I have it screwed to the side of the cubby box next to the drivers seat with the hand held unit bracket on the front of the cubby box. It's a good unit but really needs a decent speaker.

    How have the other Puma owners done this?

    Hi Andrew
    I picked up a feed from the back of the cigarette lighter and ran a cable to a 3 plug socket that sits against the side of the cubby box (passenger side) and I run the UHF TX4400 off that as the radio is mounted on the back of the cubby box. I also run a double USB socket from it for charging the phone.

    Hi,
    An assortment of my accessories run from the back end of the Traxide SC80.
    I can select this or ignition (or off) with a double throw switch and relay.
    Thus:
    1) with the camper on the back, either ignition or aux battery power.
    2) with no camper, either ignition or crank battery till the SC80 cuts out.

    Best of both worlds I think,

    Mine is also wired back to the Traxide unit in the battery box. Just ran the wires under the cubby and into the battery box under the front passenger's seat. Works fine.

    thanks Guys, I have the Redarc 1225 unit as my dual battery unit - might check if I can wire the radio into that.

    It�s handy to have the UHF wired to a permanent power supply rather than an ignition supply, for example, if you�re at camp waiting for someone to turn up, the radio can remain on. If you have dual batteries wire it to your accessories battery as the draw from a radio is minimal.

    Yes, mine is connected to the second battery side of the Traxide to protect the starting battery if I forget to turn it off. The solar panel on the roof rack also keeps the starting battery charged.
